Product Description

DM860-AIS 3–5 NM Solar Marine Lantern with AIS AtoN

The DM860-AIS combines a 3–5 NM solar marine lantern with integrated AIS AtoN communication, providing both visual navigation marking and digital AtoN information in one compact unit.

It supports AIS AtoN Type 1 / Type 3 and multiple communication modes including FATDMA, RATDMA and SOTDMA, with a typical AIS communication range of 15–20 NM.

Built on the DM860 solar lantern platform, it also features integrated solar power, GPS synchronization, Bluetooth configuration and up to 25 days of continuous operation.

3–5 NM Visual Range · AIS AtoN Type 1 / Type 3 · FATDMA / RATDMA / SOTDMA · 15–20 NM AIS Range

Integrated AIS AtoN Communication

The key advantage of the DM860-AIS is the integration of visual navigation marking and AIS AtoN communication in one unit.

While the lantern provides a 3–5 NM visual signal, the AIS module transmits digital AtoN information to nearby vessels and compatible AIS monitoring systems.

This allows one device to provide both conventional visual marking and digital navigation information, reducing the need for separate AIS equipment.

AIS AtoN Type 1 / Type 3

The DM860-AIS supports both:

  • AIS AtoN Type 1

  • AIS AtoN Type 3

The configuration can be selected according to the communication requirements of the project.

This makes the DM860-AIS suitable for different types of AIS AtoN deployment, from basic digital marking to applications requiring more active communication capability.

FATDMA / RATDMA / SOTDMA

The DM860-AIS supports multiple AIS communication modes:

  • FATDMA

  • RATDMA

  • SOTDMA

These options provide greater flexibility when matching the lantern with different AIS network structures and project requirements.

15–20 NM AIS Communication Range

The typical AIS communication range of the DM860-AIS is 15–20 NM.

The product therefore provides two different working ranges:

  • Visual range: 3–5 NM

  • AIS communication range: 15–20 NM

The visual signal supports local navigation marking, while AIS allows digital AtoN information to be transmitted over a longer distance.

This gives vessels and compatible monitoring systems access to navigation information before the light itself becomes visually identifiable at closer range.

Visual and Digital Navigation Marking

The DM860-AIS is designed for projects that require more than a conventional navigation lantern.

By combining the lantern and AIS AtoN function, the unit can provide:

  • Visual navigation marking

  • AIS digital AtoN information

  • Longer-range digital communication

  • One integrated solar-powered device

This makes it particularly suitable for navigation buoys, channels, offshore AtoN and other locations where both visual and digital marking are required.

Reliable Solar-Powered Operation

The DM860-AIS uses four 3.5 W marine-grade mono solar panels and a 12.8 V / 20 Ah LiFePO₄ battery.

The integrated solar power system supports autonomous operation without external power infrastructure.

It provides up to 25 days of continuous operation, helping maintain reliable marking in locations where maintenance access may be limited.

GPS Synchronization and Local Configuration

Built-in GPS synchronization supports synchronized flashing between multiple lanterns where coordinated navigation marking is required.

For installation and maintenance, the DM860-AIS supports:

  • Bluetooth configuration

  • RS232 configuration

  • Keypad configuration

It also supports 256 programmable IALA flash characteristics for different navigation marking requirements.

Why DM860-AIS?

The DM860-AIS combines the essential functions required for modern marine AtoN applications:

3–5 NM visual marking + AIS AtoN communication + solar power + GPS synchronization

By integrating these functions into one compact unit, it provides a practical option for projects requiring both traditional navigation lighting and digital AIS AtoN capability.

For different communication requirements, the DM860 Series is also available in standard, GSM remote monitoring and satellite communication configurations.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the visual range and AIS communication range?

The 3–5 NM range refers to the visible range of the navigation light, while the 15–20 NM range refers to AIS communication distance.

Which AIS AtoN types and communication modes are supported?

The DM860-AIS supports AIS AtoN Type 1 / Type 3 and FATDMA / RATDMA / SOTDMA communication modes.

Can the DM860-AIS still be used as a normal navigation lantern?

Yes. The DM860-AIS retains the standard 3–5 NM visual navigation marking function while adding AIS AtoN communication.
